Deceptive Trade Practices in the Herbal Supplements Market

According to cease and desist letters sent by the New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman four major retailers (GNC, Target, Walgreens and Walmart) have been selling herbal supplements that failed to contain the principal ingredients identified on the label. According to the report, the following supplements were found to contain either no trace of the following ingredients (listed below) or very little trace amount.

  • General Nutrition Corporation “Herbal Plus”: Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Echinacea, Saw Palmetto.
  • Target Corporation “Up and Up”: Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Echinacea, Saw Palmetto, Valerian Root.
  • Walgreens “Finest Nutrition”: Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Garlic, Echinacea.
  • Walmart “Spring Valley”: Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ginseng, Garlic, Echinacea, Saw Palmetto.

Weil, Snyder, Schweikert & Ravindran P.A.. is investigating claims on behalf of consumers who purchased any of these products from the listed stores, and we are particularly interested in testing product samples.
