Almost a year after Jacksonville, Fla. volleyball coach Sarah Powers-Barnhard filed a civil complaint against the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), alleging they violated the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act by allowing coach Rick Butler to remain a member, one of Powers-Barnhard’s attorneys, Iva Ravindran, of Weil Quaranta, said that in a recent hearing on the case the presiding judge heard arguments on the defendant’s motion to dismiss: “We’re fighting as hard as we can to keep this case in state court where we think it belongs.” The suit also accuses the AAU of negligence.
